Astra Zeneca (AZ) Vaccine Information

The Joint committee of vaccination and immunisation have just released a statement to say that in addition to all those under 30, that have not yet been vaccinated should be offered an alternative to the Astra Zeneca (AZ) vaccine this advice has now been extended to all those under the age of 40.

If you are aged between 18-39 and have already had a 1st AZ vaccine you should continue to have the second AZ vaccine as planned unless you have experienced major venous and/or arterial thrombosis occurring with thrombocytopenia following vaccination with any COVID-19 vaccine.

If you have an appointment booked for a 1st AZ vaccine and are aged 18-39 you will be contacted by the national booking system to make you aware of these changes and if you choose to have an alternative vaccine you should book through the link that is sent to you from your GP surgery. We are currently inviting age 39- 40 so you may need to wait a short time for you to receive this invitation.

If you have not yet booked your 1st vaccine then you will be only be able to book into an appointment through the national booking system that is for an appropriate vaccine ie not AZ. The national booking system will be updated in the next few days to reflect this. Alternatively you can book through the link that will be sent to you via your GP surgery when your age group is invited.

If you have a 1st dose appointment scheduled for a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, no further action is required.
